How to Check if AI Mentions Your Business

Choose useful questions, read the answers, and check the pages AI uses to describe your business.

To find out whether AI mentions your business, start with the questions your customers ask. Save the answers, check the links, and repeat the same questions over time.

Write Down Real Customer Questions

Use questions people ask before they contact you. Include a location and a service so the question has a clear purpose.

  • Which plumbers offer weekend repairs in my area?
  • Where can I find a dentist accepting new patients in this neighborhood?
  • Which nearby cafés serve breakfast before 8 am?

Replace general location words with your town or neighborhood. Avoid naming your own business in the first check: you want to see whether it appears without prompting the tool to talk about it.

Save the Answer, Not Just a Score

For each check, record the tool, exact question, date, answer, and any linked pages. Keep the question wording consistent when you repeat it.

A simple tracking sheet can use three labels: mentioned if the answer names your business, cited if it also links to a page about it, and not found if your business is absent. Use the labels consistently across your checks.

Read What the Answer Actually Says

A mention is only useful if the description is accurate. Check the services, area, opening hours, and other details. Note competitors that appear and what the answer says about them.

If there are links, open them. Is the information on your own website, a directory, or another publisher’s page? Keep a list of incorrect details and the pages where you found them.

Improve the Information You Control

Update your own service pages and business profiles first. Explain what you offer, where you work, and how a customer can contact you. Use customer questions to spot information your website leaves out.

For Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google says the usual SEO practices still apply. It does not require special AI files or a new type of structured data. Pages need to be eligible for Search, and inclusion is not guaranteed. This guidance applies to Google’s features; it is not a guarantee for every AI tool. Read Google’s guidance for site owners.

Look for Patterns Across Checks

Do not treat one answer as a permanent result. Keep a history of the same questions so you can compare which businesses and sources appear. Use that history to choose what to review next, rather than rewriting a page after every check.
