Keep Your Business Details Consistent Online

A simple routine for checking your name, phone number, address, and hours across your website and listings.

A customer should not have to guess which phone number works or whether you are open. Keep one reference list of your business details, then use it to check the places where customers find you.

Create Your Reference List

Write down the information your team has confirmed:

  • Your real business name
  • The phone number customers should use
  • Your website and main service pages
  • Your public address, where appropriate, or the areas you serve
  • Regular opening hours and upcoming holiday changes

Give the list an owner. When something changes, that person can coordinate updates instead of leaving each team member to make a different edit.

Check the Places Customers Use

Start with your website and Google Business Profile. Then review directories that matter to your industry or area. Check the live listing, not only the information stored in an account.

Google asks businesses to use accurate, real-world information. Business names should match how the business is represented offline, rather than include extra search keywords. Address rules also depend on how the business operates; a business that travels to customers should review the service-area guidance before displaying an address. Check Google’s business representation guidelines.

Track Each Difference

Keep a small table with the listing URL, incorrect detail, correction needed, owner, and status. Write a specific task such as “change Saturday closing time from 1 pm to 5 pm” rather than “fix listing.”

Match the meaning of the details. A harmless difference in formatting is less urgent than a wrong number, an old address, or hours that send someone to a closed business.

Confirm the Update Is Visible

After making an edit, check the public page again. Record when you submitted it and whether the correction is visible. If a listing is controlled by someone else, use that platform’s correction or ownership process.

For possible duplicate profiles, first confirm whether they represent the same business and location. Review the platform’s guidance before removing or merging anything.

Review Details When the Business Changes

Make listing checks part of changes to your hours, phone number, location, or services. Review special hours before holidays, and give the reference list to anyone updating your website.

The goal is practical: customers should find accurate information wherever they check. Consistent details help avoid confusion; they are not a promise of a particular search position.
